Chris Plunk - Biography

influences: Carter Beauford, Neil Peart, John Bonham

Born in Dallas, TX, Chris began playing drums and percussion at the age of 10. He played on the Bryan Adams Drumline throughout high school, where he was a member of All-City and UIL Region bands.

Upon his graduation from high school, he moved on to attend college at Southern Methodist University. But something was missing. Chris had been in some kind of an organized musical ensemble for almost 10 years, and this was the first time, in a long time that he was not playing music.

In 1997, he joined up with a mutual friend of a friend, singer-songwriter Dee Crump, and his band Mojo Child. They played many shows in the D/FW area up until 1999, one of the more notable gigs being the time that they opened for everyone's favorite Dixie Chicks, as well as sharing the weekend bill at Dallas' The Pound, with Skunk Records artists Filibuster, and WuTang Clan's Cappadonna.

Upon graduating from SMU, he finally got his "dream-kit," a 5-piece Yamaha Maple Custom drumset. While not playing with anyone at the time, he had fun just having jam sessions with friends from time to time around session circles, campfires, and the likes.

In early 2003, he began jamming with a friend of his, singer-songwriter Jason Montgomery, at a few local open mics around the metroplex, adding percussion to the songs that Jason had written. On one particular evening, Ken Demith of the band Mercy Service, saw Jason and Chris play their folky set at Texas Stardom in Frisco, TX. Having worked with Pickle before, and knowing that they were looking for a drummer, Ken was impressed with Chris' jazzy, syncopated feel and wanted to introduce him to Craig and Sean.

Chris was interested and set up a time to get a feel for Pickle's music. That turned into his first rehearsal with Pickle, and the rest is unwritten history.
